RockersNYC is a Lower East Side streetwear company that is built on a foundation of originality. Its founders are Marcus Burrowes, RockersNYC’s Creative Director, and Sean Reveron, RockersNYC’s Cultural Engineer. Burrowes and Reveron put their souls and imaginations into their designs, creating pieces that speak to the times.
Marcus Burrowes was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He was raised in the Rasta faith, and was heavily influenced by Jamaican reggae culture. As a child he was drawn to the art he saw on the album covers of his favorite reggae artists, which fired his creative passion and led him to experiment with art. He later moved from Kingston to California, living in both Santa Monica and Venice Beach. Marcus spent his youth painting, inspired by his changing environment. His painting led him to New York’s Parsons School of Design, where he nurtured his talent for illustration and design. Since then he has gained invaluable design experience through his work on advertisements, magazine layouts and album covers. Burrowes is able to put into arresting pictures the concepts that define RockersNYC.
Sean Reveron was born in Hollywood and raised on the boardwalks of Venice Beach. He joined the skateboard community in 1975, but didn’t find his true love until he witnessed his first hardcore show. The punk community of the 80s was his revolution, influencing his worldview and sparking his nascent creativity. Reveron began to experiment with his natural musicality, and found that his versatility allowed him to be a part of many different musical movements. He lived in Kingston with the Burrowes family from 1985 to 1986, where he discovered his love and talent for dancehall. When he returned to California he became a part of the hip hop movement, and created lasting friendships and creative associations with some of hip-hop’s legends. He later moved to the UK, where his musical talents flourished through his work with David Holmes and Petra Jean, the Beta Band and Roots Manuva. Reveron’s current project is his band with Modest Mouse’s Dann Gallucci, AGunCalledTension. He brings a wealth of cultural experience, creativity and verbal ingenuity to RockersNYC.
Through RockersNYC, Marcus Burrowes and Sean Reveron have found an outlet for their creative talents. Each of their shirts reflects their unique worldview. RockersNYC is a way for them to bring their dynamic energy to the people – to inspire a fashion revolution.
